On 1st August students of grade 11th and 12th Science Stream of N.H. Goel World School visited the biotechnology laboratory of Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur.
Dr. Zenu Jha showed the students 23,500 varieties of germplasm of rice at R.H Richharia, department of genetics and plant breeding. It is the 2nd largest germplasm collection in the world.
They also visited a functional food laboratory and also came to know about biofortified varieties of rice containing extra supplements of nutrients in them. Students also visited tissue culture lab and got information about micropropagation techniques and DNA Fingerprinting. Later on students visited the horticulture garden and saw the grafted mango trees with many varieties of mango in the same tree. They also visited the nursery with a wide variety of plant species. Overall the educational trip was quite informative for all the students.
