Report of Himalayan trekking
On 30th of April the Himalayan trekking trip began from Swami Vivekananda Airport, Raipur, with a team of around hundred students of grade 8th, 9th and 10th and a team of seven teachers including Abhinandan Sinha, Vinod Joon, Vinay Kumar, Diksha Sahu, Poonam Pandey, Sharmishtha Chakraborty, headed by the team leader Mr. M.N Singh.
All the students reported on time, and around 2.30pm they boarded the flight for Delhi.
On reaching Delhi, students got a treat of pizza and then boarded the Volvo bus to reach Dalhousie. Around 9.30pm a dinner break was taken at 70 mile stone restaurant at Murthal. Once again they headed towards Dalhousie and reached there around12 noon. It was quite cold and foggy at Dalhousie. The team reached the Youth Hostel and the students were allotted their rooms. The same day students had lunch and took a rest. In the evening the students gathered to attend a session conducted by members of YHAI where they were informed about the schedule for the coming days. It was the day for acclimatization for everyone.
In the evening students went for a walk around the base camp for acclimatization.
On 2nd May students went walking to Panchpula where they rappelled and crossed Burma bridge under the guidance of professional instructors. Students were very excited to do these adventurous activities.
On 3rd May students went walking through the marketplace and went to Gandhi Chowk and visited St. Francis Church and enjoyed the beauty of nature on the way. In the evening, there was a talent show for the students where they presented some cultural activities like music and dance, and one of the students played drums as well.
On 4th of May students were ready after breakfast for the trekking to Kalatop.
It was a 40 minutes’ drive to Lakkharmandi located at an altitude of 8000 feet by bus. Around 8:45 AM students started their trekking towards Kalatop. After walking for an hour, they reached the destination. It was indeed a beautiful place with tall deodar trees and greenery all around and the snow filled mountain tops were wonderful to see. After having some refreshment and taking a break for some time the team walked down the jungle Road and once again reached lakharmandi. On the way students enjoyed the snow and played with it. After five hours walking through the jungle Road once again, the team reached the hostel. It was a wonderful experience for all the students trekking through the jungle Road.
On 5th May after having breakfast, students were taken to Daikund by bus located at an altitude of 9800 feet. The team started their trek to Joth. The trek was in the green mountain tops. The students were excited to see the snow filled mountain tops. The greenery and the beauty of nature was mesmerizing for everyone. On the way they halted for some time in a temple and after taking a break for some time they continued with trekking. The trek was for 6 km and finally after completing the trek they were taken by bus to Khajjiar, called mini Switzerland of India located 24 km away from Dalhousie. Finally, students returned back to the hostel. In the evening students were informed about the flora and fauna of Dalhousie and they were being given the certificate of participation by YHAI.
On 6th May, the team left the youth hostel and headed towards Amritsar. On the way they had relishing food at Haveli restaurant.
In Amritsar, students visited Jallianwala Bagh and Wagah border. The show of Wagah border “beating the retreat” was astonishing and filled everyone with the feeling of patriotism.
Next day in the morning, students visited Golden Temple after breakfast and headed towards Chandigarh.
In the evening the students were dropped to Elante Mall, 10th largest mall in India spread over 20 acres. Students did some shopping and had the food of their choice.
Finally they returned back to Delhi airport and boarded the flight and reached Raipur safely. Students were handed over to their parents by the teacher in charges.
Overall it was a wonderful experience for everyone and all the students enjoyed and learnt a lot from the trip.
